Man made…?

A slight twist, in celebration of Woman’s Day. I hope you enjoy! She-Ra

Man. There he stands, roaring his prowess:
His strength; his mind; his voice; his power.
There he stands, Man, so blithely alone,
Independent, and standing oh so strong.
There he goes, the Alpha Male,
Swaggering and strutting and gloating.
There he preens, the Alpha male,
Thinking he is man-made alone.
Male pride, male audacity to think
He made it solely on his own
Male roaring and his competitive urge
To show that only he, above all, is Number One.
Ah! But we know don’t we?
And any Man worth his salt knows-
The secret, as he beams quietly and proudly-
His strength comes not from himself alone:
For who was it who born him into his life?
Who was it who raised him with his strength and his wits?
Who was it who gave him the wisest advice?
Who was it who taught him his failings and errors?
Who is it who picks him up when he falls?
Who is it who lets him cry, without mockery?
Who is it who keeps every secret he utters?
Who is it who gives him the strength when he thinks his strength has failed?
Who will it be who gives joy to his heart?
Who will it be who teaches him what kind of man he is?
Who will it be who sees nothing but adoration when looking at him?
Who will it be who teaches him to better himself?
Behind every man, Great and not so great,
Behind every man, Alpha Male through to Geek,
Behind every man from baby-hood to great-grandfather,
Stands – not one Woman; but many:
In silent strength, in giving compassion,
Without complaint – (okay sometimes with)-
Stands each Man’s own personal army:
Grandmother, Mother, Sister, Lover, Daughter.
Yes any Man worth his salt knows-
He is not Man-made, but made of

  1. Hi I have awarded you The Very Inspiring Blogger A ward for rules go to you really deserve this award! xxx

  2. Yes, not one woman, but many. This is powerful. I think the balance I see between men and women is beautiful, the masculine and feminine within us all.

    • 🙂 Yes. My partner started to read it and said he first thought “uh-oh, here we go, a feminist rant”… but was actually impressed by the overall tone!
Yes it is biased towards women – it was meant to be, in celebration of Women’s day. But, given the opportunity, I would celebrate Man too.
      After all, they’re not ALL bad… 🙂

      • I didn’t read any bias, but I’m a woman so perhaps I just read it with pride. I think most men appreciate the power of the women in their lives and in our world. We all have so much to give to one another. Our true strength is in our togetherness.

      • 😀 Absolutely! And that’s why i get mad when feminism is used or seen in a domineering way – true ‘feminism’ is about true equality, balance, and women doing things for themselves because THEY WANT TO, not for men, or other women, or to gain status. A true woman recognises the qualities of men and other women… and true men recognise the inner beauty of true women.
        *Ahem* Rant over!
Thank you eM for your true and inspiring thoughts 🙂

      • Rants can be empowering.

  3. Absolutely right Heidi…..

  4. Who is man not born of woman? very powerful and brilliantly stated, Heidi 🙂

  5. I love that ending … My personal army! So true! Thank you Heidi!

  6. Brilliantly written and unquestionably true. I love the long strings of questions that began with ‘who,’ though some ‘stiff’ head may choose to ignore them. In all, a great tribute from you to all women.

  7. Absolutely excellent Heidi. I remind my son of this often-:)

  8. So awesome!

  9. is that She-ra????? 🙂

    • HELL YEAH!! 😀

      • I thought it was, but was slightly worried my foggy brain was imagining it!!! used to love watching her and He-Man lol

      • Haha, She-Ra was my heroine when i was little! It was either going to be her or Wonder-woman!

      • She-Ra or Jana of the Jungle, if you are one of the few who may recall her…(I have a feeling I may have been the only one to ever watch that!)
on the main note tho – great post! men always think they don’t need women but they wouldn’t exist without them! 😉

      • No, I don’t recall jana of the Jungle, sorry!
Thank you – and yes, exactly! 🙂

  10. Sometimes we have to keep salting him to remind him. lol But I think we do a pretty good job of what we do. 🙂
I did enjoy this!! As I do all you write.
