About Kairos

In case you’ve read my piece, ‘Kairos’ I thought I had better explain…

I often struggle to write. No matter how much I want to, sometimes the inspiration just does not come, an extremely frustrating feeling as I’m sure any other writer knows!

I was persuaded to read Tom Wolfe’s ‘Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test’, and was immediately entranced. I could not put it down. Tom Wolfe was a journalist who went on the road with Ken Kesey and his friends in the ’60’s… apparently the first ever drugs road-trip.

As I read it, taking in the mad adventures of free spirited people, and the wonderful, creative writing of Mr Wolfe, something amazing happened… I found I was inspired to write – needed to write, like an impulsive urge taking over my body and mind to the exclusion of all else. So I grabbed paper and pen… and wrote. I did not stop to think. I did not pause. I found that I needed to allow my mind to flow, without rationalising sentence structure, rhyming rhythms, any conscious haltings… it is freeform writing, pure and complete.

And that is one of the things that I love about a truly good book, and why reading is a good thing – not only does it expand your mind and your knowledge, but it inspires you to your own endeavors too. Reading is a joy in itself, but it so much more when you allow yourself to be inspired….

And who knows where that will lead?

Hopefully, somewhere wonderful!
